McHenry County to Celebrate National County Government Month with Poster Contest

WOODSTOCK, Illinois – McHenry County will celebrate National County Government Month (NCGM) during the month of April to showcase how the county is moving America forward through transportation and infrastructure projects and other county programs and services that help its communities grow and prosper.

The theme for this year’s celebration of NCGM is “Counties Moving America Forward: The Keys are Transportation and Infrastructure.”

To celebrate this year’s theme the McHenry County Board Management Services Committee will host a student poster contest for K-12 students who attend school in McHenry County. Students are asked to create original artwork that reflect how the county connects communities through transportation and infrastructure.

McHenry County invests in efficient transportation and transit options to connect communities.

With over 500 county lane miles, 54 bridges, and three public transportation services, McHenry County transportation and infrastructure are critical components that support our economy.

Recent projects that McHenry County has had involvement in include the Western Algonquin Bypass, MCRide Dial-A-Ride (which provides means for residents who do not have access to a car to travel throughout the County by bus), Johnsburg Road Roundabout, bridge and roadway repairs across the County, and the Rakow Road improvements.

“The National County Government Month Poster Contest is an excellent opportunity for youth to show their work and the County’s role in shaping communities,” states Tina Hill, Chairwoman of the McHenry County Board Management Services

The 2015 National County Government Month Poster Contest begins on March 12, 2015 and the deadline to submit entries is April 3, 2015. Entries should be mailed or delivered to:

County Poster Contest — 3 Comments

  1. How about a poster contest to explain TIFs.

Or a poster contest to explain bond debt per property taxpayer.

Or a poster contest to explain unfunded liabilities per property taxpayer.

Having a PR campaign via a poster contest before appropriately explaining to taxpayers, the amount that government has indebted taxpayers to create the focal points of the poster contest, is not good government.

    It’s a sales job.

Much more work needs to be done on transparency and disclosure.

Taxpayers have hidden debt for which they are not aware.

  2. That’s what I thought at first, voter.

Then I thought, “How apropos. BS is BS.”
