Here is who got what the latest round of Illinois Transportation Depsrtment grants:
- $295,870 for Winn Road Bike Path in Spring Grove
- $663,503 for Marengo’s Prospect Street Bike Path and Sidewalk Project
- $1,053,698 for Crystal Lake pedestrian connections to Regional Prairie Trail
BS grants.
What rubbish!
A waste of taxpayer money. Bike riders can use quiet, low traffic 20-25 MPH posted residential streets.
There are bike riders who apparently have a death wish. Not kids, or teens but older guys. They have the white flashing light at the front of bike and red flashing light at rear. All well and good, but there are some, probably a small minority who ride their bikes on 55 MPH posted roads, some of which are hilly, curves, double yellow marked in the center and a gravel shoulder not paved.
Saw an old guy bicycle rider yesterday on 2-lane Lake-Cook Road in the Barrington area during rush hour.
Some existing bike paths are remote and could be dangerous to riders in that these paths give opportunities for thugs and criminals to attack people.
A side note. The much needed interstate highway from route 53/Lake-Cook north to the Wisc state line was in the news recently in the Daily Herald. The land for the route was purchased years ago and for the last 50 years, Hawthorne Woods, Long Grove were blocking it. The article in the Herald mentioned that some want to use the land for bike paths. Ridiculous. An interstate type highway is sorely needed. Ever drive north on Route 12 to the State Line.
You are fools if you pay taxes. Your money is consistently being wasted on porked-up projects like this. Every single one of you things that had anything to do with this kind of graft will shortly find yourselves in Hell. You are the demons that have wrought destruction. Evil minions, all.
