McCullom Lake Hikes Sewer Charge to $95 per Month for Four-Person Family

Forwarded by a Friend of McHenry County Blog in McCullom Lake with this comment:

$95 a month to flush your toilets in McCullom Lake.

Good thing they have cash surplus to hire 10 police officers in a village of 1,010 people,  including this gem of an officer Luke Tessmann, who cost the Lake County Sheriff’s office 9 million dollars in a lawsuit.

Sewer Rate Increase

Effective August 5th billing there will be a $9.00 increase to the O&M (Operations and Maintenance)

In 2017 The City of McHenry raised the rate The Village is being charged to treat our wastewater.

The Village did not pass along this increase to it’s residents at that time and has been since absorbing the costs.

Over the past 3 years this increase has depleted the reserves for operations, maintenance, and repairs.

With an aging sewer system we need to rebuild the reserves for any maintenance or repairs that may be needed in the future.

The good news is the bonds are still on track to paid off by the end of 2023 which will eliminate the $39.00 monthly debt reduction charge.

  1. Isn’t it really just a neighborhood, like so many small towns around here?

  2. It’s a neighborhood, but for some reason they made themselves a village.

As somebody living there I can tell you the following:

    1. The roads are in utter despair, potholes 2-3 feet wide.

    2. The village in now way enforces garbage codes, tons of houses are loaded with garbage in their yards, but the village wont enforce those rules.

    3. The police will literally ticket your parked car in your own driveway. Twice I have had random village police in my driveway inspecting my car.
