IL-14: Lauren Underwood Releases First Fall TV Ad Buy

Lauren Underwood

Titled “Everywhere”, Underwood’s TV ad carries the baggage of her honesty reminiscent of her infamous “R.N. for Congress” ad of 2018

Congresswoman Lauren Underwood released her first TV commercial with a cable TV ad buy yesterday morning.

Titled “Everywhere”, the 30 second ad includes a count of all of her town hall meetings, community events and highlights her legislative accomplishments:

With vote-by-mail ballots set to hit the streets in less than two weeks, Underwood is reintroducing herself to voters who normally do not follow congressional politics.

McHenry County Blog note: Republican challenger Jim Oberweis’ campaign was contacted yesterday on the status of his first TV ad buy, but campaign declined to comment, or if a TV ad buy would take place prior to the start of vote-by-mail ballots hitting the streets on September 24.

COMMENTARY: Since the start of the congressional debates a week and a half ago, Underwood continues to emphasize President Trump signing three of her bills into law, and included this screen shot half way through the ad:

Since the start of the debates, Underwood has been emphasizing she’s had three of her bills signed into law by President Trump, and while the ad has a slight clarification using the wording “3 pieces of legislation” as opposed to “three of her bills”, the top graphic of “Rep. Underwood’s ‘Lower Insulin Costs Now’ Act signed into law” is NOT TRUE.

As explained on September 3 on McHenry County Blog, the Act she refers to was signed into law as part of the Appropriations Bill last December funding all parts of the federal government, excluding Defense and Homeland Security.

At Wednesday’s (9/9) debate, a reporter questioned Underwood on the specifics of her three bills and how they became law and she answered with a testy tone for being challenged, then went into different ways bills become laws through “omnibus” legislation.

But Underwood’s kind of adjusting the truth on the legislation signed into law brings back memories of Underwood’s infamous 2018 “R.N. for Congress” ad where several scenes included her dressed in nurses scrubs, working at a doctor’s office treating patients, when the back office policy administration nurse NEVER worked in such a setting.

These two ads are a clear pattern of behavior Republicans, especially Jim Oberweis, are right to call her out on, provided they do it.

Underwood’s ads are like turnovers in football. Does Oberweis/Republicans capitalize on Underwood’s fumbling of the truth and go for the win and score touchdowns? Or do Oberweis and his supporters choose to settle for field goals.

Time will tell, and with the 2nd week of September ending, we are little over halfway through the first quarter of the General Election campaign game that kicked off on September 1, and the final gun sounds at 7PM CT on November 3.

  1. Careful now, your comment will be viewed as hurtful and highly egregious by Little Eddie
and you wouldn’t want to suffer his wrath.

    Eddie 🧡 FAKE NURSE !

  2. with each lie she tells (or with each child she’s responsible for killing thru her very liberal abortion votes)?

  3. Real nurses help save lives.

Real nurses don’t abort innocent babies. ☹️😭

  4. A nurse or a curse?

    I choose curse!

She is such a hateful person.

    Hate, hate, hate!

    Yes, she traffics in it!

    Wallows in it!

    A BLM secret chanteuse!

    An amoral pygmy.

    In the thrall of evil.

  5. Lauren Underwood another embarrassment to McHenry County.

In fact, she is a Jack Franks protege!

  6. I don’t know how Republicans con and dupe their Voters to vote against their own interests.

Lauren has done more for Il14 in less then 2yrs than Hultgren (0 bills).

Lauren has 3 Bills signed by Trump that benefits We the People.

    Now that’s bipartisanship!!

But don’t take my word for it listen to the words of Saint Ronald Reagan!

  7. No Ron, Underwood has three bills, more like one bill, and parts of two others that were included in larger bills that were passed and signed into law.

Those larger bills were the DOD/Homeland Security Appropriations, the non DOD/Homeland Security Appropriations and the CARES Act.

Saying it the way you, and she has done at debates, is an embellishment from the truth which is a lie, and mainstream voters in the 14th will not vote for a liar.

  8. Ron please stop pretending to be a Republican.

    You’re not fooling anybody here.

    Are you Ron Eck?

  9. “Underwood’s ads are like turnovers in football. Does Oberweis/Republicans capitalize on Underwood’s fumbling of the truth and go for the win and score touchdowns? Or do Oberweis and his supporters choose to settle for field goals.”

    Is that you, Ted Gradel???

In all seriousness, I saw the ad yesterday on TV.

I also received a mail piece from Underwood.

And if I were making an analogy to football, I’d say unless her opponent clearly recovered the ball, which Oberweis did not, then Underwood still has possession.

At best, Underwood’s wild claim represents the ball coming loose.

Did Oberweis capitalize on it though?

    Did he seize the opportunity?

I don’t see any signs of that.

I see that YOU are attempting to set the record straight (which viewers appreciate), but how is Oberweis reacting?

To me, it appears she is methodically driving up the field like Aaron Rodgers.

Oberweis team needs something like a sack in order to stop the momentum.

If Catalina Lauf ever mentions Oberweis by name on social media, I guess you could say she is like Julian Edelman…

Will she come alive in the fourth quarter?

    Nobody knows!

(I don’t understand how she can tweet about Underwood all the time and not have the courtesy to mention Oberweis! It’s not like she shies away from name-dropping several other Republicans running for congress, but she won’t mention the Republican running in her own district..)

  10. ** mainstream voters in the 14th will not vote for a liar.**

    Cool!

They’re not going to vote for Trump?!

  14. @Lee Preston, people on this blog have long suspected Oberweis’s campaign is full of incompetent people and/or saboteurs.

Having met his staff and seeing a lot of diversity hires plus a white guy who I’m pretty sure is retarded, I now lean more towards the former than latter explanation (not that it is an excuse).

People on this blog called for him to replace his staff and get better people long ago.

We see no evidence of that happening.

His campaign has been riddled with errors from the moment he launched his campaign.

In fact, he “mistakenly” filed for the wrong office…

    https://www.wmay.com/2019/02/18/oberweis-plans-new-challenge-for-durbins-senate-seat/

There are few, if any, signs of improvement.

His new mailing is something else.

    The headline reads:

    “Jim Oberweis
If you like his ice cream, you’re going to love him as your Congressman”

    …huh?

I don’t hate the guy, but I question many of his campaign decisions.

  15. Jim Oberweis lost bids for US Senator (2002, 2004) and Illinois Governor (2006). He had NO prior elective office experience. ☹️

The few that won, with NO prior elective office experience are:

    US Senator

    Paul Douglas (1943-1967)
Technically, he was a 1 term Chicago Alderman previously.

    Charles Percy (1967-1985)

    Governor

    Otto Kerner (1961-1968)

    James Thompson (1977-1991)

    Bruce Rauner (2015-2019)

    Jay Bob Pritzker (2019-Present)

    Anyone else? 🤔😁

  16. If Oberweis dies as a result of his sleeping sickness, can another GOP candidate be added?
