On Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 5:53 PM, emergency crews from the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue and Crystal Lake Police Departments responded to the report of a traffic crash within the intersection of Ackman Road and Westport Ridge in the southwest portion of the City.

Upon arrival responding units determined the crash involved a passenger automobile and a pedal cyclist.

The cyclist, a 17 year old female, was injured in the collision, and was tended to by responding paramedics.

While not sustaining what are believed to have been life-threatening injuries, the manner of the collision and contact between the units involved instigated a transport by Flight-For-Life helicopter from the scene to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL.

The automobile driver (sole occupant of the vehicle) was not injured in the crash.

It was determined through a subsequent, albeit initial investigation that the automobile, a 2006 Lexus, had been travelling eastbound on Ackman Road, driven by Emily Schlimm (20) of Lakewood, IL.

The cyclist, (name withheld pending confirmation of identity and confirmed notification of family), had been travelling southbound on Westport Ridge before entering the intersection in the path of the automobile, which had the right-of-way.

The units collided within the intersection, resulting in the bicycle being driven over by the automobile and the cyclist being ejected to the pavement.

Traffic was diverted on Ackman Road between Crimson Drive and Golfcourse Road for approximately 2 ½ hours as emergency crews tended to the injured, investigated the crash and removed the vehicles and debris from the roadway.

This incident remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department.

No citations have been issued at this time.
