Iowa Caucus Polls Show Trump Lead Far Below National Polling Averages

Monday morning, the Des Moines Register published its first poll for the January 15 Iowa Caucuses and the new poll revealed what other credible polls have been saying for the past week.

Ex-President Donald Trump’s lead over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in Iowa is far less than the nationwide lead multiple other polls have published in recent days.

SOURCE Des Moines Register/NBC News/Mediacom Iowa Poll of 406 likely 2024 Republican caucusgoers, Aug. 13-17. Margin of error: plus or minus 4.9 percentage points. Totals may not add to 100% due to rounding.

Carly Atchison, national spokeswoman for Governor DeSantis posted on X (formerly known as Twitter):

“3 TAKEAWAYS FROM NEW DES MOINES REGISTER POLL

1) Iowa is a 2 man race and far from settled.

2) Ron DeSantis has highest favs of ANY candidate – despite over $20M spent against him.

3) About as many caucus goers are considering DeSantis (61%) as are considering Trump (63%).

Bob Vander Plaats, president and CEO of the Des Moines-based The FAMiLY LEADER, posted on X:

“Takeaways from the Des Moines Register poll:

1) Iowa’s wide open,

2) Donald Trump 42% is his peak and it’s only August,

3) Trump fragile, at best

4) If there’s a coalescing, by candidates or voters, Trump gets beat Caucus night.”

As for Trump, him and his unofficial spokeswoman Laura Loomer are taking to gaslighting, saying the Des Moines Register poll shows him with a 31-point lead:

The first debate among most of the Republican presidential candidates is Wednesday night in Milwaukee.

Trump announced late Sunday he was going to sit-out all Republican presidential debates, citing his large lead in national polls.
